A Study of Vulnerable Road Users’ Behaviors Using Schema Theory and the Perceptual Cycle Model

China is currently in a rapid urbanization phase, and road traffic accidents occur frequently, with vulnerable users often being easily injured. Traditional safety research focuses on environmental structural issues or considers human factors as the cause of accidents. This study organized 30 to travel quadrangular area Wudaokou Beijing, collected language data from subjects for analysis, attempted apply schema theory perceptual cycle model field cognitive psychology analyze perception decision-making processes users, thus discovering accident risks environment their underlying causes perspective users. The found that such disorderly placement shared bicycles, food delivery vehicles occupying road, damaged infrastructure, unreasonable design affect order, proposes targeted improvement suggestions.
